Statement

Lately, I've been working primarily in oils which allows me to spend a little extra time in the sort of exquisite moments that might otherwise go unnoticed in the hectic nature of my daily life. A painting practice requires me to be present, to pay attention, to appreciate the gorgeousness around us. Which deserves to be noticed; it's entirely possible we otherwise might lose it. Earthy spring, lush summer, glorious autumn, stark winter—there is no season during which New England isn’t breathtaking.

My creative process involves capturing both the sensory input of the physical experience of a scene, and the deeper connections it suggests. It requires me to explore just what stopped me in my tracks. Was it an interplay of shapes, a striking contrast, vibrant color harmonies, or perhaps a resurfacing memory, or sense of familiarity? I strive to embrace the essence of, and express delight in, what matters most, leaving behind my innate perfectionism and offering the viewer a chance to explore their own interpretations and connections.
